Fish Lake 2012

This past Thursday we headed down to Fish Lake with Jon's family for their annual fishing trip. Last summer when Jon and I were dating I was invited to go with the Baxters on their fish lake trip for the first time. It was really neat and I got to know Jon's family really well during that trip.

This year we are married so his parents didn't have to put us in separate rooms again (ha ha!)! We stayed for 2 nights and even though it was windy and chilly, it was so much fun!

The first night we just hung out, sitting on the porch of our motel, enjoying the scenery, exchanging stories and jokes. Scott, Michelle, Jon and I all decided to go for a little scenic drive to a nearby reservoir where we were attacked by swarms of gnats!!

But it sure was beautiful!

When we got back, Jon kept going into the other motel room and jumping onto the bed while his mom was sitting on it. So later that night, she came into our room and jumped onto our bed to get him back! But what was even funnier was that the rest of the family had followed her so soon Jon's dad, Michelle and Scott were all on the bed too! Jon of course had to jump on the very top to complete the Baxter dog pile. I was able to snap this quick shot before Jon's mom told everyone to get off so she could breathe. Jon calls this the "bums" picture:

Friday morning we got up early so we could go fishing. We were only out on the water for three hours before the wind started blowing so hard that the boat was rocking all over the place and we were freezing so we decided to stop for a few hours until the wind died down.

On our way back to the motel, Jon and I saw a little snake slithering through the grass. I picked it up and Jon's family thought I was so brave, which made me laugh. :)

Later on, Michelle, Jon, and I decided to go for a scenic drive, and I'm so glad we did! The mountains were beautiful and it was so peaceful and quiet.

We never did go back out on the lake because the waves just got worse and worse and we could see other boats out there rocking around like crazy! But even though we didn't catch any fish, we still had fun during the time that we were out on the water. We spent the rest of the evening going to the little restaurant at Bowery Haven (the resort where we stayed) and then wandering around fish lake taking random pictures...

Just before the sun set, Jon and I decided to take a little hike up the mountain just behind our motel. I took several pictures of the view from the top and used photoshop to combine them into a little panorama, which I am quite proud of:

Jon fell asleep shortly after 11 pm but I stayed up until midnight reading. Before I went to sleep, I got up and peeked out the window to see if I could see the moon shining on the lake. This is what I saw instead:

I woke up Jon right away and we opened the door to try and get a better picture, but of course, that made half of the deer scatter. But we thought it was neat that we got to see so many deer so close up!

The next morning we traveled back home again. It was a short vacation, but much needed and we are so glad we were able to get time off of work to go! We can't wait to go again next year!
