Our Little Garden

About a month ago we decided that it was warm enough to start planting in our garden. We chose to plant corn, pumpkins, cantaloupe, and cucumbers. And after a couple weeks of watering, weeding, and patience, we are starting to get results! I painted a couple of homemade signs to celebrate our success:

We love watching our garden grow!

Callings

It seemed like during the first few months of our marriage when we weren't quite so busy with school or work, our ward didn't even realize we existed. Now that we are super busy with GRE prep classes and full time work (on crazy schedules), we've been noticed! Almost a month ago, I got called to be the second counselor in the Primary Presidency. I love it! There are about 20 kids in the primary and 20 kids in nursery. I feel so blessed to be working with these sweet little ones and I'm glad that people in the ward know who I am now! This past Sunday Jon got a calling of his own, as the second counselor in the Sunday School Presidency. It's still brand new to him, but I'm sure he is going to do wonderfully! We will be sure to keep the blog updated on what is going on with our callings. We feel so blessed....and noticed! :)

One Year Older And Wiser Too!

Oh my goodness, life has gotten busy this month! Working opposite schedules from Jon really stinks. Unfortunately the only time we get together is after I get home from work at 10 pm. We usually go to the gym together, and then go home and talk and rest until bedtime. Sundays and Wednesdays are our favorite days because we both have Sunday off, and I have Wednesday off so we get the evening together. This past Wednesday that worked out great because it was Jon's birthday! We celebrated by going to Texas Roadhouse and ordering delicious steak and ribs (Mmmmmmmmmm!), and by going to see 2 movies: The Avengers, and Dark Shadows.

Then on Sunday we drove up to Riverton to celebrate with Jon's family. For the past few years they have made Jon wear a crown when they have his birthday celebration. He hates wearing it. I think that's why they make him do it--his family finds it hilarious.

His Mom made one of his favorite foods: sausage meatballs. They were delicious! And afterwards we sang happy birthday and ate cake and ice cream and Jon got to open presents!

We finished the evening off by going for a walk near our beautiful Oquirrh Mountain Temple.

Where we saw baby ducklings!

and had a lovely view of the eclipse, which was conveniently covered by clouds...

Boy, do I love this man!

Happy 25th Birthday, Jon!

Challenge Accepted!

Things have been getting pretty busy around the Baxter apartment the past couple weeks. Summer is the busiest season for my job, so I am now back to working full time. I work from 2 pm to 10 pm every day. This means that Jon and I hardly get to spend time with one another since he works in the mornings/afternoons, and I work afternoons/evenings. But we are glad for the time we do get together. Starting tomorrow, Jon is going to start taking a class at BYU to help prepare him to take the GRE in June! Since we only have one car, we decided to buy a bike this past week so that Jon could take the car to his class while I ride the bike to work. I'm excited to get the extra exercise!

Jon even bought me a helmet! He's so sweet.

A couple weeks ago Jon's older brother Kirk challenged him to complete the sensuous sandwich challenge with him. On Wednesday, Jon accepted the challenge (dun dun dun!!).

Challenge: Eat any sensuous 24″ sub sandwich.
Time Limit: 30 Minutes.
Prize: Free T-shirt that, when worn to the restaurant, gets you a free medium drink.

The Sandwich

So Jon and Kirk got their sandwiches and the server got the timer ready. On your mark, get set, go!

It was an intense contest! Kirk's time was under 4 minutes, and Jon made it in 18. Not bad for Jon's first time! Although it will probably be his only time. We drove straight home and he almost threw up several times before we got there. He has vowed never to do that again.

But at least now he gets free drinks!
