Jon's New Toy

Well we finally did it! After talking about it for over a year, doing a lot of research, lots of thinking, and then even more talking, we finally went out and bought a scooter. This is mostly just for Jon to take to work, but we are still really excited about it! Especially Jon. He is absolutely beside himself with excitement. He loves it! He came in from riding it around for the first time with this big smile on his face, saying, "That was so much fun!" I'm so glad that he loves it, but I make him promise me everyday that he is going to be so safe and careful.

Doesn't he look good on a scooter? I sure think so!

Togo the Turtle

For those of you who don't know, I'm obsessed with Turtles. They have been my favorite animal since Junior High and I don't think that is ever going to change. Big turtles, small turtles, tortoises and sea turtles, you name it. If it is a turtle, I'm in love with it. When I was 16 and got my first job at Coney's Frozen Custard in Orem, my coworkers and I came up with a little inside joke. One day one of my coworkers wrote "To Go" on an order, and circled it with lines coming out to emphasize the importance of it. Well, he wrote the two words close together so it looked like "Togo" and the circle with the lines looked like a turtle. I don't remember exactly how, but we eventually came to the conclusion that "Togo the Turtle" was the unofficial mascot of Coneys. One thing let to another and from then on my coworkers and friends decided that any turtle we saw was always secretly named Togo.

When Jon and I started dating, it didn't take him long to discover my obsession with turtles. When we got married, he promised me that one day he would get me my very own turtle. And when I say "one day," I mean that Jon and I were thinking like 10 years from now.

Well, a couple weeks ago I got a text from my sister saying that she found a guy who was selling baby turtles for really cheap. I called Jon and told him about it, and by the end of that night we had a new member of the family.

Meet Togo!

These pictures were taken a couple days after we got him. Since then, he has gotten a little darker in color.

Here is a video of him eating. And yes, there are a lot of floaties. He doesn't eat with his mouth closed.
Ha ha ha.

Isn't he awesome???

Same Old...

Yes, I realize that is has been almost 2 months since I last posted. But honestly, nothing new or exciting has really been happening. Jon and I are both working lots, and trying the best we can to find time to spend with one another since our work schedules are so opposite. But last week we started going to the gym for an hour and a half instead of just an hour! Its tough work, but we are slowly but surely moving towards our goal weights. Jon is a little closer than I am but I am trying hard to catch up. I swear he looses weight faster than me because we eat and exercise the same amount. It also doesn't help that my knee randomly likes to give out on me at the gym. I'm sure people laugh at me when I go down and then come back up super quick every night. And last night at the grocery store while crouching down to see something on a bottom shelf, I had a shooting pain and my knee completely gave out and the next thing I knew I was landing on my bum in the middle of the isle. Thank goodness no one else was there to see it except Jon, and we had a good long laugh after he helped me back up.

Speaking of Jon, can I just say that I married the most amazing man ever? Our car is pretty much dying on us, and we can't afford a new one right now. So we have been trying to drive it as little as possible, and we have been especially avoiding longer drives if we can. Since Jon works in American Fork, this is what he has been doing for the past couple months:

4:20 am-Wake up
4:30 am-Load bike onto bike rack (we finally invested in one--thank goodness)
4:40 am-Have wife drive him to Frontrunner station in Provo
4:47 am-Get on Train for American Fork
5:07 am-Arrive at American Fork Station
5:32 am-Get on 850 bus
5:41 am-Arrive at American Fork Hospital, ride bike several blocks to the USDC
6:00 am- Arrive at USDC and begin work for the day

All that by 6 am! I told you he was amazing. :) We are working really hard right now to get my work schedule time changed so we can see each other more than 1-2 hours a day. Especially since that time is mostly spent at the gym.

Since we went all out, above and beyond, and to the extreme for Valentines day last year (cut us some slack, we were newlyweds!), we decided to take it easy this year. So we got KFC for dinner and had a good time babysitting our 2 year old nephew.

Sorry there aren't any pictures this time. Like I said, not much has been happening with us as of late. But I will try and be better about posting in the future! :)

1 year down

We have been married for 1 whole year! After Jon and I got married, we had to get back to work pretty soon; so we were only able to go to Salt Lake for a couple of days after our wedding. We decided to do it again a year later! So we went up to Salt Lake for the weekend. We feel so silly going to a place that is only an hour away that we have both grown up so near to, but it's a changing city so there is always new things to see, and the old stuff doesn't really get old!

The view from our hotel room. We stayed on the tenth floor-Room 1023. We had a beautiful view of the temple and the city center.

The view at night. So pretty!

We had planned to go find the City Creek Park that we had heard so much about, so we walked in the cold for several blocks but we couldn't find it! Instead, we accidently happened upon the Capitol Building--just in time to see the sunset.

Us in front of the Capitol Building. Happy 1 year anniversary to us!

On Sunday we went to the conference center and got our own personal tour of the building. The lady who gave us the tour was hilarious, and kept giving us facts that the other tourists usually don't get to hear. It was weird to see the conference center completely empty. The only times we have been there was during general conference, devotionals, or concerts.

The conference center waterfall from inside

Did you know that the distance between where we stood to take this picture, and the pulpit is the distance of a football stadium?

Kind of blurry, but this was at the Assembly Hall on Temple Square. Jon thought it would be hilarious to take this picture. He said, "Whoever had to sit in that sit must have been so uncomfortable for the entire meeting!"

A little dark, but this was the only picture we got in front of the temple. Jon's eyes are closed. :(

Overall we had a fun weekend just relaxing, sleeping in, seeing movies, and touring around SLC. And there were even things that we didn't get done that we had planned to do so I guess we will just have to come back next year! ;)

When we got back we each had a slice of the top of our wedding cake that had been frozen for the past year. It was still just as yummy as when we smashed it into each other's faces on our wedding day!

1 year down, eternity to go!
